Fifty Two Miles
No easing in. From our start in Goathland its straight into an open singletrack climb. This sets the tone for a day of moorland riding at its best. Epic views, lush wooded valleys, historical sites, some cracking pubs and great cafes as we wind our way west. We take in Newtondale with its heritage railway, the sublime singletrack above Rosedale, over to the highest point on the moors at Round Hill. A welcome afternoon pub stop prepares us for more graft as Snilesworth Moor and Great Arden Moor are both tackled as legs tire. More wonderful singletrack takes us to the sting in the tail- an ascent of Black Hambleton. See if you can climb that one without stopping! We are on the home stretch now and rewarded with the best views of the day and a downhill cruise along Hambleton Drove Road to High Paradise Farm and our overnight stop.
A brand new Day 2 route for 2019. It's straight into secret singletrack down into hidden Thorodale after breakfast, as we cross Ryedale into the charming village of Hawnby. Heading East through cool wooded valleys and into the first big climb back onto the moors above Helmsley. More deserted single track and quiet country lanes take us over to glorious Farndale and a visit to Hutton le Hole for a well earned lunch and maybe a pint? Using lesser used tracks we pass through pretty Appleton le Moors and Cropton with its famous Brewery before plunging back into the forests again and into Newtondale and a tea stop at a 1930’s railway station. We climb back onto the moors for a run around the Hole of Horcum, pass the early warning radar station at Flylindales, visit Lilla Cross with its incredible 360 degree view before a final flourish down cracking singletrack back to Goathland for a well earned pint at the Mallyan Spout Hotel. Great food and beers on standby to finish off another glorious day of adventure.
